Worldwide, January is observed as Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. It is an excellent opportunity for the staff of Women Health Program at SQCCCRC to write a few lines to raise awareness about cancer of the cervix amongst community in Oman. Cervical cancer is preventable, while it develops, it can be detected early through screening, and if diagnosed, is one of the most treatable cancers, provided it is detected early and managed effectively. Cancers diagnosed in late stages can also be controlled with appropriate treatment and palliative care. Generally, the public is not aware of the scientific and medical developments in prevention, screening, and management of cervical cancer, hence, this article is intended to increase awareness about these aspects of cervical cancer.
Since its establishment in March 2022, the Creative Center Team (SQCCT) has organized activities and events to enhance employees’ internal communication. The goal is to provide them with a knowledge and skill-building experience that uplifts their competencies in the work environment, especially with recent graduates eager to contribute their scientific and life experiences and aspiring for broader opportunities for learning and contribution. Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Care and Research Centre (SQCCCRC), a prominent figure in cancer care, has unveiled a groundbreaking advancement in the country: the Lutetium-177 (Lu-177) PSMA radionuclide therapy. This introduction expands its Theranostics Program, fundamentally reshaping the landscape of oncology treatment nationwide.
Gynecological cancers have been increasingly seen as a public health concern due to several factors which are linked to the global rise in the incidence rates, the late presentation of the disease, and the high number of relapses. Additionally, the unique nature of the disease itself involving the most intimate female organs put an additional psychological burden on these women.
Gastrointestinal Cancers Program organized several scientific dialogue sessions under the name of (HBP café), which comes within the framework of exchanging medical knowledge and experiences in gastrointestinal cancers field, as the program hosts international experts from various health institutions and universities. Most patients who come to such institutions are willing to take part in meaningful studies that could potentially revolutionise medical practice and enhance their own and other patients’ treatment outcomes.
In a significant step towards innovative medical care, Gastrointestinal Cancers Program at Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Care and Research Centre (SQCCCRC) has performed the first Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy (LRP) in Oman.
LRP is a minimally invasive surgical procedure to remove the prostate gland in patients with prostate cancer.
The Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Department at Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Center (SQCCCRC) represented by the Interventional Radiology Unit has successfully proven Diagnostic Reference Levels (DRLs) for Image-Guided Interventional Procedures (IGIPs), specifically for cancer patients in the Sultanate of Oman. This marks a significant step towards improving healthcare quality, ensuring the safety of patients and healthcare providers, and reducing unnecessary radiation exposure while keeping high-quality diagnostic and treatment procedures.
In recognition of the Breast Cancer Awareness month, the Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Care and Research Center (SQCCCRC), represented by the Genomics Department, organized a scientific day to raise awareness among healthcare professionals in the Sultanate of Oman about Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer syndrome (HBOC).
