The Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Care and Research Center in the Sultanate of Oman was established with a medical vision allowing cancer patients to receive specialized therapeutic services which are not limited to its patients (only) but extended to their families as well. This is a remarkable endeavor given to the Center’s patients together with their families. Researchers and trainees in the medical fields (Cancer) and related specialties similarly benefit this medical vision of SQCCCRC.
Hajar Al-Hinai, Physiotherapist from the Holistic Care Department, SQCCCRC has significantly contributed to authoring a research chapter in the book “A Comprehensive Guide to Exercise Medicine,” authored by Dr. Hidetaka Hamasaki, MD, Internist and President of Hamasaki Clinic. The book was published by IntechOpen, a leading global publisher of Journals and Books within the fields of Science, Technology and Medicine and the preferred choice of over 60,000 authors worldwide.
Management of gynaecological cancers require integrated multi-disciplinary care. Besides the gynaecological, medical and radiation oncologists, multidisciplinary management requires clinical nurse specialists, geneticists and counsellors, psychiatrists, palliative care specialists, clinical pharmacists, clinical nutritionists, and physiotherapists. Using the case study of a patient who underwent treatment at the SQCCCRC, we write to highlight the role and importance of integrating physiotherapy in the overall management of patients with gynaecological cancers.

The Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Care and Research Center hosted the 2nd Scientific meeting of Omani Urology Society (OUS), titled “Genitourinary Malignancy Meeting, GUM”, The event focused on discussing the latest advancements in diagnosing and managing prostate, bladder, testicular, and kidney cancers.
As we celebrate the World Cancer Day this 4th February 2024, Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Care and Research Center, (SQCCCRC) continues to exert its ongoing efforts to combat cancer and reduce its impact on individuals and communities around the world. SQCCCRC’s approach to cancer prevention and care is the essence of celebrating World Cancer Day. The Center’s initiative aimed at raising awareness about cancer, promoting early detection, prevention and treatment, and advocating for improved access to health care services for cancer patients understanding the inequities in cancer care and making the necessary progress to address them.
Improving the quality of life for cancer patients (living with cancer: beyond survival).
Diagnosing cancer presents enormous challenges, affecting not only physical health but also emotional, social, and spiritual health. Recognizing this, quality of life has become a key focus in cancer care, intending to help patients live well alongside treatment and recovery.
The Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Care and Research Centre (SQCCCRC) concluded a training course program developing the skills of social workers. This comes as part of SQCCCRC’s efforts to empower the social worker at a clinical level and enrich their knowledge and skills in the management of cancer patients.
Worldwide, January is observed as Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. It is an excellent opportunity for the staff of Women Health Program at SQCCCRC to write a few lines to raise awareness about cancer of the cervix amongst community in Oman. Cervical cancer is preventable, while it develops, it can be detected early through screening, and if diagnosed, is one of the most treatable cancers, provided it is detected early and managed effectively. Cancers diagnosed in late stages can also be controlled with appropriate treatment and palliative care. Generally, the public is not aware of the scientific and medical developments in prevention, screening, and management of cervical cancer, hence, this article is intended to increase awareness about these aspects of cervical cancer.
