Hajar Al-Hinai, Physiotherapist from the Holistic Care Department, SQCCCRC has significantly contributed to authoring a research chapter in the book “A Comprehensive Guide to Exercise Medicine,” authored by Dr. Hidetaka Hamasaki, MD, Internist and President of Hamasaki Clinic. Hajar Al-Hinai’s contribution, a scientific research chapter titled “Supportive Exercises for Cancer Patients” delivers a clear and interesting message about the physical side effects of cancer treatments and how exercise can reduce or treat these side effects based on clinical studies proven on different types and stages of cancer.  She also discussed some of the overlooked side effects, such as osteoporosis, urinary incontinence for both sexes, cancer-related obesity, and lymphedema, which cause physical, social, and psychological issues, and the role of exercise in solving these problems, whether exercise alone or with other interventions as a personalized program designed for the patient.

Al-Hinai further stated that her contribution in the book came through mutual communication with specialists from outside the Sultanate of Oman to teach or change cancer patient’s way of thinking or acting and increase their understanding and knowledge about an interesting subject the “role of physical therapists” in solving health problems and improving and promoting the patient’s quality of life as well as the latest updates in this field.  She adds, “The work on this research took about four months, from October 2023 to January 2024. Its importance lies in the correct guidance of specialists based on clinical trials to perform exercises and special treatments related to physical therapy to obtain the maximum benefit and to raise awareness among patients about the importance of consulting a physical therapist and adhering to the treatment plan provided in order to improve and promote the patient’s quality of life. I also hope that it will be a reference source for my colleagues.”

It is noteworthy that IntechOpen is a global website concerned with scientific research that provides free access to scientific research, believing that knowledge should be available to everyone.
